Explanation: Clyde Edwards-Helaire entered last season with a tremendous amount of rookie hype and it’s safe to say he didn’t quite live up to it. As far as what he offers this year, that’s where it can get a bit tricky. Edwards-Helaire finished as the 22nd ranked running back last season in fantasy points. He still has the ability to be a top running back in football, but his value will depend more upon his volume in the passing game.
With Andy Reid‘s high octane passing offense, the run is considered, by a large margin, the secondary choice. However, Edwards-Helaire was highly touted in the NFL draft due to his hands in the passing game.
Last season, Edwards-Helaire finished his rookie season with 13 games played, 803 rushing yards, 4 touchdowns, 36 receptions, 297 receiving yards, 1 touchdown for 165 fantasy points
Edwards-Helaire is playing in a high volume offense, which gives him the ability to become a complete back this season. The big concerns with CEH this season are where the carries going to go and if can he step up in the passing game. However, another thing that should be taken into consideration is the number of teams with a running back committee.
Looking at teams like the Bills, 49ers, Broncos, Texans, and more, none of them really have a solidified running back one. With that being said, when you have a player who you know is a true RB1, that should be your top priority. With all of that considered, Edwards-Helaire is a great candidate for a late round-two/early round-three selection should he be there.
