With another year comes another list of the value of teams in the National Football League from Forbes Magazine. This year, Forbes has the K.C. Chiefs ranked as the 22nd most valuable NFL franchise with a total value of $2.93 billion.

While the NFL as a whole is a hot commodity as the most popular sport in America with growing interest in many international directions, the Chiefs in particular are a rising ship of their own. That shouldn’t be a surprise given their back-to-back appearances in Super Bowls as well as their ability to employ a couple of the NFL’s single most popular players in quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce.

This year, the Chiefs are ranked at No. 22 overall among NFL franchises, a slight click higher than past seasons, but it’s the value itself that has skyrocketed. This year’s Chiefs team is valued at $2.93 billion meaning that Clark Hunt and his family have watched the team’s worth grow by 17 percent in the last year.

Forbes has valued the KC Chiefs at $2.93 billion.

In 2020, the Chiefs were ranked No. 23 overall with a total team valuation of $2.5 billion. To give some perspective, in 2019, the Chiefs value was at $2.3 billion overall which left the franchise at No. 24 in the annual Forbes rankings. In 2018, the team ranking was the same even as the value was lower at $2.1 billion.

In short, it looks as if the NFL itself provided the Chiefs an annual bump of $200 million in average valuation in the last few years and that didn’t affect the pecking order of teams. However, this past year, the Chiefs enjoyed a much greater bump, likely due to their increasing popularity and their present competitiveness, and now they’re moving up beyond other franchises (albeit slowly and surely).
