No. 5: DE Jerry Mays

When you look back at Kansas City’s Super Bowl run in 1969, the team has six players in the Pro Football Hall of Fame from its defense and eight altogether from that team (excluding Hank Stram and Lamar Hunt). Jerry Mays should be the seventh member of that defense in Canton.

Whether it was as a defensive tackle or a defensive end, Mays was always a force to be reckoned with. Mays collected 65.5 sacks in his 10-year career, all with the Dallas Texans-Kansas City Chiefs franchise. His best season came in 1969 during the team’s Super Bowl winning season where he had 11 sacks.

Mays is a six-time AFL All-Star and was named to eight All-AFL teams. He was also voted in to the Pro Bowl in the final season of his career in 1970 and is a member of the AFL All-Time Team.
