No. 6: S Deron Cherry

Deron Cherry was one of the best safeties in the NFL during the 1980s, Cherry was consistent with the Chiefs in his 11 years with the franchise.

Cherry collected 50 interceptions for 688 return yards, placing him third and fourth respectively in franchise history. Cherry also finished his career with 14 fumble recoveries, the fourth most in team history by a defensive player.

Cherry’s success landed him six Pro Bowls and five All-Pro selections. Cherry was named to the NFL’s 1980s All-Decade Team, being just one of two Chiefs to be part of that team.

Given Cherry’s last season was in 1991, it is a surprise he has not been inducted to the Hall of Fame by now or received consideration. But we have seen some players have to wait a long time. Perhaps that is the case for a dominating defensive back like Cherry.
