Patrick Mahomes already owns the entire NFL unofficially, so it makes sense that his ownership interests might try to find an outlet in other sports. The K.C. Chiefs star quarterback already owns a minority stake in the Royals across the parking lot from his football home at Arrowhead. On Tuesday, it was announced that Mahomes is now also part of the ownership group for the city’s MLS franchise, Sporting Kansas City.

Together with his fiancee Brittany Matthews, who is part the ownership for Kansas City’s new franchise in the National Women’s Soccer League, Mahomes’ household will now have a major interest in local football—ahem—of a different kind.

Given the fact that his 10-year mammoth contract extension kicks in next season, Mahomes is set to start averaging around $45 million per year for the next decade just from his production on the field in the NFL. Of course, that doesn’t touch the money brought in via numerous endorsement deals and the fact that he’s one of the league’s most marketable figures around.

The Chiefs find themselves in an enviable position as well by having Mahomes and a core of so many great players with a clear Super Bowl window, and team president Mark Donovan recently commented about the team’s initiative to become into a burgeoning global brand at present.

It’s not as if Mahomes needed to impress local fans anymore than he already has given his on-field heroics that make him the game’s most exciting quarterback. He’s already delivered the first championship in 50 years and there’s plenty more room on the mantle for more Lombardi Trophies. Still, establishing further ties to other local sports franchises will engender him further to the fan base while reaping the obvious financial rewards.

Now about that NBA franchise…
