Jody Fortson, WR/TE

The Chiefs have a lot of depth at receiver, but over the course of the past couple seasons, the Chiefs have yet to give Jody Fortson a chance. Fortson has had very limited opportunities even in previous preseasons, but when he’s shined when doing so.

The big 6’6″ receiver has the ability to be an elite threat for the Chiefs offense and give Mahomes a big target to throw to in the red zone. Fortson was an undrafted free agent from Valdosta State back in 2019, and although being injured in his final season, he caught the eye of the Chiefs front office in the pre-draft process.

Fortson has become a fan favorite receiver and that is coming on only watching him a few times in preseason games. The big body and brute strength of Fortson allows him to practically manhandle any cornerback who tries to defend him one-on-one.

Given his lack of experience, Fortson will obviously need work to run crisp routes or great route variations. Those two things there have to be what’s keeping him from getting many chances, because he has every physical tool that would allow him to be a contributor for the Chiefs.
