How early should you draft Tyreek Hill?

I’m a firm believer that if you are drafting in the early first round you should be targeting one of the best running backs, but as you get into the mid to late first round you can certainly make a case for drafting Tyreek Hill. Depending on what rankings you look at, most experts have Hill as either the number one or number two ranked wide receiver in fantasy football this season. Most of the time if Hill is second, Davante Adams is number one, but his situation is still in limbo until we find out what Aaron Rodgers is doing this season. So I feel like it is safe to say that right now Tyreek Hill is the safest pick as the top wideout in fantasy football this season.

I’ll go one step further for you Chiefs fans, Tyreek Hill is the safest pick for you if you are dead set on targeting a Chiefs player in the first round to build your team around. While Hill might not put up the reception totals of some other elite receivers, his explosive speed makes his yards and touchdowns much more reliable than a typical receiver. Touchdowns can be especially hard to predict for receivers, but Hill has been a touchdown machine. In the 43 regular season games he has started since Patrick Mahomes became the starter he has scored 37 offensive touchdowns and averaged 84 receiving yards per game.

For comparison, Stefon Diggs has only scored 23 touchdowns and averaged 80 yards per game despite having 60 more receptions than Hill over that time span. Now, if you play in a PPR (point per reception) league that could help balance the scales for someone like Diggs and if Aaron Rodgers is playing in Green Bay, that could make Davante Adams a better option since he typically puts up tons of receptions and scores a lot of touchdowns.

The bottom line here is that if the top running backs are already off the board and you are itching to pick a Chiefs player in the first round, you are much better off targeting Hill and getting a stud for your receiving group than you are reaching for Patrick Mahomes in the first round of a standard league.

So is Tyreek Hill the only Chiefs player you should consider in the first round of your fantasy football draft?
