As the summer days go by fans of the Kansas City Chiefs get closer and closer to training camp and the start of another NFL season. That also means that we’re getting closer and closer to the start of another season of fantasy football. It’s that time of year when you need to start finding a league if you don’t have one and looking over rankings to figure out what strategy you want to take this season. As Chiefs fans, several of our favorite players will be big time targets in fantasy again this season, but should you go out of your way to land them on your fantasy team this season?

First off, you need to be honest with yourself on what your approach to fantasy football is. If you’re just out to draft a bunch of your favorite players that you enjoy cheering for and you don’t care that much if you win or lose, that’s fine, but in that case you probably don’t need to do much research. On the other hand, if you’re like me and REALLY like to win, you need to go into your draft (or auction) with a plan and as much knowledge as possible.

If you’re reading this piece on a Kansas City Chiefs blog in the middle of the summer there is a very strong chance that you are a big time Chiefs fan. So the first question you need to stop and ask yourself is if your fandom is clouding your fantasy football judgement? The Chiefs obviously have some big time fantasy players on their roster, but that doesn’t mean that your best plan of attack is to just load up on Chiefs players regardless of where you are picking and what other players are on the board.

So this week I thought I would try to share some fantasy advice specifically for Chiefs fans regarding some of their top players and what approach you might want to take towards drafting them if you want to prioritize building the best roster possible over just loading up on your favorite players. Keep in mind, the scoring system and rosters play a huge part in how you should draft your team. We’ll address some of that under the specific players, but make sure you know exactly how many players at each position you start each week and what the scoring system is.

Let’s just jump right into things by discussing why Patrick Mahomes might be the most coveted player in the NFL, but probably shouldn’t be the top player you target in fantasy football.
