Austin Edwards, DE

If you love small school guys, then you’re going to love Austin Edwards, who was a man among boys at Ferris State only a couple years ago.

The Chiefs have had Edwards on their radar for quite some time after spending time with him at the East-West Shrine Game during the pre-draft season of 2020. From there, Edwards went undrafted but signed with the Atlanta Falcons as a rookie free agent and made the team’s practice squad heading into the regular season. Edwards was even active for a single game in late October.

The Falcons kept Edwards on the practice squad through the rest of the year, but the Chiefs ended up signing him to their practice squad when the Falcons season was over and a new regime came in to replace the departed Dan Quinn.

Edwards had 10.5 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss during his final season at Ferris and was even named the top senior lineman in D-II. He’s had a year-plus to adjust to the pro level and gain strength in that span. Is he ready to turn the corner? The Chiefs have plenty of opportunity for someone to step up at the defensive end position.
