Jarran Reed

Could the Chiefs really have three Pro Bowl defensive linemen? That seems a bit too much, but just stay with us here, because this line is being reinvented and the Chiefs apparently have a lot of trust for what Reed can do in the middle.

Right now, the Chiefs are planning to shift Chris Jones outside some on earlier downs and then perhaps slide him inside later on to allow him to take new angles to the quarterback. It’s also a move Jones has been wanting for some time. The thing is, Jones is already known around the league as one of the best tackles on this side of Aaron Donald.

A team can ill afford to lose the proven disruption from a position like they could with Jones—that is, unless you trust things are going to work. This is a bet not only on Jones’ ceiling but also on the players they already have in house, including Jarran Reed.

Reed came into the NFL known as the best run defender in his draft class, but with the Seattle Seahawks, Reed has become known as a disruptive defender along the interior as well. Reed had 6.5 sacks from the inside for the Seahawks last year and has even reached double digits before.

Will three lineman from the Chiefs roster make the Pro Bowl? Not likely at all. But it would be understandable to see a guy like Reed earn one of those spots if he can prove himself in this contract year with a Super Bowl contender.
