Who would you say are the top two players from the K.C. Chiefs? The first entry is an obvious one in quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The second one could be a toss-up between a few faces. Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports says it doesn’t matter who you slot in at No. 2 overall, the Chiefs are still second to the Green Bay Packers when it comes to the top duos in the NFL.

Benjamin decided to fill the doldrums of the early summer calendar with an interesting rundown of the league’s top duos. Typically these lists will focus on the best combinations—like quarterback and wide receivers or best offenses overall. However, this list takes on a different angle and simply asks, “Which team’s top two players are the best top duo in the league?”

Benjamin acknowledges that Mahomes is the best player in the game, or at least that he’s tied with Aaron Rodgers for that status, and he also notes that the Chiefs have a few top-tier players who pair well with Mahomes to create a formidable duo. That said, nothing for him beats the mix of Rodgers and wide receiver Davante Adams at No. 1.

The K.C. Chiefs have the league’s second-best duo of top players.

The Chiefs come in at No. 2 overall and it’s here that Benjamin explains himself.

"Doesn’t matter if you swap Hill for Travis Kelce, Chris Jones or Tyrann Mathieu. You’re not going to get much better than No. 15, whose otherworldly arm angles and pocket presence will forever give his team a chance."

The idea that the team with the best quarterback also has one of the best wide receivers, the best tight end, one of the best pass rushers and arguably the best safety is still mind-boggling even though we’re all well aware of how talented this Chiefs roster is front to back. And of course, we’re not even discussing the imported new offensive line talent or the potential of young defenders like L’Jarius Sneed, Willie Gay, Juan Thornhill. Heck, the Chiefs might even have the best kicker in the league.

As for the rest of the AFC West, the Denver Broncos placed No. 29 overall with two defenders forming their duo in Bradley Chubb and Justin Simmons. The Raiders landed at No. 20 with Darren Waller and Derek Carr (a bit surprising). Finally, the big shocker is that the Chargers are No. 3 on this list with Keenan Allen and Justin Herbert. We all believe that Herbert has very real potential to be an elite quarterback, but slotting that duo in front of Buffalo or Seattle, among other teams, feels like a stretch.

Next. What to expect from a Tyrann Mathieu extension. dark
