The K.C. Chiefs have signed a new free agent offensive lineman in Wyatt Miller in what clearly seems like a way to bolster the competition with veteran signing Kyle Long currently on the mend.

Long was recently lost to a lower leg injury for what could be the rest of the summer. The Chiefs signed Long, who came out of retirement for a year earlier this spring, to compete for a starting position on the right side of the line—likely at guard—and the early word was that he looked solid for the Chiefs so far in organized team activities and minicamp practices.

With the loss of Long, the Chiefs still have plenty of competitors at right guard, but Long came with experience at both guard and tackle and perhaps the Chiefs are using this opportunity to take a closer look at another potential player who could help across the line with Long out of the temporary picture.

Miller is a product of the University of Central Florida who has bounced around various practice squads and offseason rosters since first entering the league as a rookie free agent back in 2019 with the New York Jets. He’s also earned looks with the Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys and ended last season with the Seattle Seahawks.

Given that a few of those teams’ offensive lines weren’t exactly tough in terms of competition, it looks like Miller, who is 25 years old, is going to face a real challenge to make himself memorable in camp, but all a player needs is the right opportunity.
