Pro Football Focus has released their head coach rankings for the 2021 NFL season and Andy Reid of the Kansas City Chiefs is sitting at the very top.

For years, Reid was considered a very, very good head coach who also took his licks because he couldn’t win the proverbial big game. The lack of a Super Bowl win somehow clouded his incredible consistency and sustained success in a league that recycles head coaches like a bag of plastic bottles. Fortunately, his current run with the Chiefs has not only erased those doubts they’ve also provided a brighter light on his overall body of work.

PFF’s Eric Eager has been a longtime appreciator of Reid, so he deserves credit here for not being one of those who were so quick to dismiss Reid’s Hall of Fame credentials not so long ago.

Reid has coached an incredible 22 seasons at the NFL level as a head coach with an average of just over 10 wins per season. With the Chiefs For the last eight years, Reid has succeeded at an even greater rate—even in the regular season—with just over 11 wins per year in his tenure. Of course that also includes consecutive Super Bowl appearances and one championship—the franchise’s first in 50 years.

It’s hard to imagine Reid failing to keep up that average amount of wins in ’21 (or really anytime soon for that matter). It’s very possible that Reid’s excitement for the current roster and coaching a team led by Patrick Mahomes at quarterback keeps him in the game long enough to challenge some more head coaching career marks for the NFL.
