The 2021 Kansas City Chiefs finally started to take shape when they took the field for OTAs last week. It was the first time we got to get a glimpse at the 2021 team now that most free agent signings are done and the draft is in the rearview mirror. There’s a lot of time between now and the kick off of Week 1, but it seems like a good time to take stock of what the roster looks like and how things might come together. Even though it’s early, I’m going to predict the entire 53 man roster, including who the starters will be and who ends up on the practice squad.

I want to be clear: this is what I think the Chiefs will do, not necessarily what I would do if I was in charge. There are some of the calls that are crystal clear, but there are a lot that are going to be interesting battles. I’m confident that 90% of my picks will be correct, but I’m also confident that I won’t get all of the remaining 10% correct. So I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments below if you think I’ve got something all wrong. Right or wrong, I’m really curious on how some of these battles play out and what Brett Veach ultimately decides to do at some of these positions.

I’d also just like to say that I’ve got Harrison Butker, Tommy Townsend, and James Winchester as locks for specialists, so I didn’t feel the need to give them their own positional break down, but those three are definitely on my 53-man list.

Let’s start the positions with the quarterbacks, where things are a lock at the top and the only real battle is probably for the practice squad.
