Von Miller is apparently tired of a half-decade of losing to KC Chiefs

There’s no denying that Von Miller is a game-changing talent. What is clear is that he’s wanting to change the outcome of a lot of games this season. In a recent tweet, the Denver Broncos pass rusher expressed his frustrations of the last half-decade, a five-year stint in which he and the rest of the AFC West have been staring up in the standings at the K.C. Chiefs.

In case you missed Miller’s statement on Monday, you can see it below:

No one can blame Miller for being upset. Not only was last season a painful one in multiple ways for Miller as he missed the entire year after needing surgery on his ankle, but he was forced to sit and watch his franchise suffer through another year of losing to the tune of a 5-11 final record. Now he’s attempting to come back at the age of 32 to a team that sorely missed him last season in hopes he can provide enough leadership and on-field production to help them turn the corner.

Miller has seen both sides of the coin in his tenure with the Broncos. During his first five years in the league, the Broncos had a 58-22 regular season record to go with a Super Bowl win in 2015 and another championship appearance in 2013. Since that time, the Broncos have had a winning record only once (at 9-7) and have watched head coach Gary Kubiak be replaced by Vance Joseph only to now continue losing under Vic Fangio. All the while, the K.C. Chiefs have continued to win at an even greater clip than before and have passed the torch at quarterback to the brightest young talent in the game.

Von Miller seems really tired of losing to the Chiefs.

And it’s not as if the Chiefs are simply doing better than the Broncos over the last half-decade. When it comes to head-to-head matchups, the Chiefs have completely owned the Broncos, no matter if Von Miller is playing or not. Since starting his Broncos career in 2011 with an 8-1 record against Kansas City, the Chiefs have reeled off  11 consecutive wins over their division rivals. What even more frustrating (for Miller) is that the disparity between both teams is growing as K.C.’s average margin of victory escalated to nearly 22 points over the last two seasons.

Can Miller make the difference this season as he returns to the field? It’s hard to believe the Chiefs will yield to an opponent who doesn’t make a major change at the game’s most important position: quarterback. The Broncos have added Kyle Fuller to the secondary along with Patrick Surtain. They have solid players on both sides of the ball, including skilled pass catchers who could do some damage if they had someone to throw them the ball. But Drew Lock has shown himself incapable of keeping top with the Joneses, and in the AFC West, you have to keep up with the best of them all.

Unfortunately for Miller, the Broncos are unlikely to return to their winning ways anytime soon—that is, at least when it comes to facing the Chiefs. Perhaps they’ll find some comfort in the shadow of the AFC West leaders and be able to squeeze themselves into a postseason spot against expectations. But Miller seems to want to get the best of K.C. He’ll have a hard time making that work in 2021.
