Former K.C. Chiefs cornerback Terrance Mitchell has found a new home after signing with the Houston Texans earlier this week.

Mitchell has put together an impressive NFL career after first entering the league as a former seventh round selection of the Dallas Cowboys, back in 2014 NFL Draft, as a productive corner from Oregon with 25 passes defended and 7 interceptions.

From there, Mitchell would bounce between the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears for a couple years and earned minimal playing time as he grew accustomed to life at the pro level. The Texans also gave him a chance back before he signed with the Chiefs in 2016, but they released him before the season even began. That’s when John Dorsey stepped up and signed him to compete for a role on the active roster.

During the next two seasons, Mitchell would not only slowly climb from the practice squad to the active roster he even ended up starting multiple games for the Chiefs. In 2017, he was entrenched in the secondary and played in 15 games and made 9 starts that season. That season, he saw plenty of action as opposing quarterbacks threw his way fairly often and he responded with 18 passes deflected and 4 interceptions—good for second on the team behind Marcus Peters (5).

After his stint with the Chiefs, Dorsey signed Mitchell away for his new team in Cleveland, where he has spent the last three seasons. Mitchell started all 16 games for the Browns last season and had 65 total tackles, 13 passes deflected and 3 forced fumbles.

The Texans have often picked up former Chiefs players over the years along the offensive front and the secondary, and Mitchell will join former K.C. safety Eric Murray as part of the team’s secondary in 2021. The Texans also bring Bradley Roby, John Reid, Desmond King to the mix along with several others to compete in training camp.
