Round 2, Pick 63 – Oklahoma C Creed Humphrey

Patrick Mahomes will have time to change his baby in the pocket next season as this revamped offensive line is beyond impressive. The expansive overhaul didn’t stop with Orlando Brown Jr and Joe Thuney, and the drafting of Creed Humphrey shows Veach’s dedication to never allow what transpired in the Super Bowl to happen again.

While not only having a name riddled for making good/bad puns (can he take this offensive line higher?), Humphrey brings a ton of talent and nastiness to the offensive front. His size, intangibles, and ability to get on a mean streak really appeals to me and the fact that he will have the ability to maul a little up front gets me enthused about the Chiefs’ ability to pick up short yardage runs.

Draft Need – B
The Chiefs didn’t really need a center with the Austin Blythe signing, but I always figured that was more of a stopgap than anything. Humphrey will now move into the future plans of K.C.

Immediate Production – A
Blythe’s time as a starter in K.C. sure didn’t last long as I think Humphrey starts right away.

Potential – A-
Again, maybe won’t be the best center in the NFL, but he will be very consistent and will have the ability to make a Pro Bowl or two while being in the middle of what looks to be one of the best offensive lines in football. I’ll accept that with arms wide open.

Overall Grade – A
