The NFL has released the dates for all offseason training activities for each franchise, which means coaches, players, and fans now know when the K.C. Chiefs will be convening this spring for various workouts.

Beginning next week, the Chiefs will bring together all first-year players for the annual rookie minicamp. Last season, such activities were shelved in the wake of COVID-19 as the coronavirus forced the Chiefs and other NFL franchises to take all instruction into the digital space. This year, the team will be back on the field, and we’ll get our first look in person at a draft class headed by linebacker Nick Bolton and center Creed Humphrey.

Every year, the Chiefs typically invite other players, many of them local, to try out for the team as well, so it will be interesting to see how many players end up coming together for the first set of offseason activities. Remember last year, Turk Wharton turned heads after coming in from Missouri S&T, so even someone from one of the smallest schools can make a big impact.

Up until May 24, any players who are practicing or working out with the Chiefs are going to be lightly walking through any sort of practice. Offensive units or defensive units are not allowed to “impede the progress of” any players running a play, per the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, so fans shouldn’t expect to hear much in the way of exciting news from camp (e.g. players making big plays, etc.). It’s about gaining familiarity, installing concepts, et al.

From May 24 through June 18, NFL teams can gather in classrooms for instruction along with 10 specific days (see below) of OTAs (organized team practice activities). Live contact isn’t allowed, but you’ll hear about 7-on-7 or 11-on-11 drills during this time. The full calendar is below for the months ahead.
