The K.C. Chiefs are reportedly bringing in another wide receiver to join the ranks with the news that former Notre Dame wideout Chris Finke is signing with the team. NFL reporter Tom Pelissero had the news of the free agent signing first.

Finke is a slight receiver at 5’9, 186 lbs. who comes with solid experience as both a receiver and a returner for the Fighting Irish. Finke was a lower-tier target for Notre Dame’s offense over the years with only 106 receptions total in his college career. He did set a career high with 4 touchdowns last seasons to go with 41 catches for 456 receiving yards. He had 49 catches for 571 yards the year before.

As a punt returner, Finke has been a steady option for Notre Dame and has extensive experience over the last three years specifically. He averaged 8.2 yards/return during his stint in South Bend with a single season high of 9.8 yards/return during his junior campaign.

The San Francisco 49ers originally signed Finke after he went undrafted a year ago and was given a sizable bonus for doing so.

Finke now joins a competitive group hoping to turn heads of the Chiefs coaches during the upcoming offseason training activities and the preseason, for whoever lasts that long on the offseason roster. Beyond the obvious candidates atop the depth chart like Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman, Demarcus Robinson and Byron Pringle, there are a number of candidates hoping to claim the final couple spots for the team.

Finke faces long odds to make it at this point, but the Chiefs have kept an open mind with undrafted free agents in years past at the position, including Pringle and Marcus Kemp, so nothing is out of the question.
