Round 6, pick 207, MSU CB Shakur Brown

The Chiefs have a very young cornerback group currently on the roster in guys like Charvarius Ward, L’Jarius Sneed, Rashad Fenton, and Deandre Baker but they have a lot of question marks in there as well. Ward seemed to regress in 2020 and I’m not quite sure he’s the answer at one of the starting outside corner spots. Baker was an exciting pickup as well, but we have no idea where he’s at health wise after a gruesome leg injury in week 17 of last season. Fenton is solid but he’s mainly a slot guy.

The Chiefs need a little more to go with stud cornerback L’Jarius Sneed and waiting until the 6th round might not be the best time to do it, but the Chiefs haven’t invested heavily in cornerback in recent years anyways, so there’s no reason to think they’ll do it now. Michigan State’s Shakur Brown might actually be a really intriguing pick in the 6th round, though. At 5’11”, 190 lbs, Brown has versatility as he can line up in the slot or outside which will bode well for his chances of making a roster.

Brown was also insanely good at MSU in 2020 with 5 interceptions in just 7 games and showed elite ball skills. The reason Brown might be available so late is the small sample size in play. He’s only started 12 games in his college career and his 2020 season was really his only good one. He struggled as an underclassman and gave up some big plays early in his career. He’s going to need a lot of work on discipline in coverage and being sound in his technique in the NFL, but there’s talent to work with here. Brown could be another late-round steal by Veach.
