Round 5, pick 175, Stanford C Drew Dalman
While the Chiefs offensive line is pretty much set for 2021 as it is, they could still benefit from picking up a high-upside player on the interior—a center to be specific. The Austin Blythe signing was a good one, but he’s a bridge player and that’s clear in the money he got paid and length of the deal. Stanford’s Drew Dalman is a player who has the potential to be a good starting center in the NFL but will need some time to strengthen his lower half before taking on NFL defensive linemen. Outside of that, Dalman plays with good technique and heavy hands.
The plan would be for Dalman to sit a year behind Blythe before ultimately taking the job if everything works out accordingly. Dalman is seen as a later-round prospect because there are some better surefire NFL centers in this draft and Dalman primarily plays center only whereas Andy Reid typically likes linemen who can play guard or center.
Either way, this pick would lock up the Chiefs offensive line for the foreseeable future. When you talk about the Chiefs front office needing to go out and get Mahomes help, this would be going above and beyond to make sure Super Bowl 55 never happens again.
