Round 2, pick 63, Kentucky LB Jamin Davis

With their second 2nd round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, I have the Chiefs taking Kentucky linebacker Jamin Davis. Brett Veach said before the offseason he wanted to address linebacker and he also said in his press conference this past week that the linebacker class isn’t all that deep, which leads me to believe he would like to pick one up sooner rather than later.

Some may prefer a prospect like LSU’s Jabril Cox here and he was available when I made the selection, but I believe Davis offers more potential as an all-around linebacker, whereas Cox is mainly a coverage linebacker who will need to add to his frame to become a better run defender. Davis is quite the physical specimen himself at 6’4″, 220 lbs. with long arms and explosiveness that allows him to get off blocks and rack up tackles. Davis also has plenty of speed fluidity in his movements which gives him potential in coverage.

However, Davis will need a lot of polishing and has some work to do mentally processing the game when on the field, similar to current Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay. but he’s got plenty of upside and could be a very nice replacement and an upgrade from Damien Wilson at the WILL linebacker spot.
