As the 2021 NFL Draft nears, various rumors and reports emerge about various players that could either be smokescreens to alter draft stock or serious notes about where that prospect is really at. For tight end Brevin Jordan, the latest rumors aren’t going to be helpful in any way.

According to Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline, the perception of how good of a player Jordan will be at the pro level is very disparate. It’s typical for opinions to vary on any player in the draft, but Pauline commented on Jordan in particular shortly before the draft in a recent column to note that some scouts are concerned about Jordan’s NFL potential.

"After the top two players, there could be some wild swings on tight end. Some teams have a late Day 3 grade on Brevin Jordan of Miami, as he’s not come across well in interviews, and many feel he’ll always be more athlete than football player."

The top two players at the tight end position are assumed to be Florida’s Kyle Pitts, who could be selected as early as the top five players in the draft, and Penn State’s Pat Freiermuth, who is a second-round pick at best. Jordan often appears in tight end rankings in the top five range. Sporting News has Jordan at No. 3 overall behind Pitts and Freiermuth, and CBS Sports places Jordan in that top trio as well. Sports Illustrated drops Jordan one spot behind Hunter Long at No. 4, while Pro Football Focus has him at No. 5, with Tommy Tremble entering the picture.

Brevin Jordan’s draft stock is reportedly all over the place.

Last season for Miami, Jordan had 38 catches for 576 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns in 8 games, including 8 catches for 96 yards and 2 scores in a season-ending loss to Oklahoma State in the Cheez-It Bowl. He had 105 catches and 13 touchdowns in his career for the Hurricanes and never once fumbled the ball.

The K.C. Chiefs have been connected to Jordan in various mock drafts over the last several weeks, a prediction based on the fact the obvious need at the position as well as the fact that Jordan has had a virtual meeting with the team. According to Justin Melo of The Draft Network, Jordan has met with the Chiefs along with several others including the Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers and more.

It will be interesting to see where Jordan is taken in the end and how we will look back at a report like this, to see whether it was a smokescreen or substantive. If early links were right, he could even be a member of the Chiefs moving forward, but only time will tell on how perception equals reality.
