Round 6, pick 207, RB Jermar Jefferson

Many will look at Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Darrel Williams and say the Chiefs don’t need a running back, and those who say that might be right. But what if one of them gets hurt? It’s not unlikely at all and, in that scenario Darwin Thompson, enters a two-deep backfield. The Chiefs always tend to carry 3-4 running backs and right now they have three. They may get a veteran like they have the past couple years, but this time a younger option with more upside makes sense. I really wish the team had kept Damien Williams but I’ve moved on.

Jermar Jefferson out of Oregon State has a profile similar to Williams in some ways and could be another weapon for Patrick Mahomes and the offense. Jefferson is really good at making guys miss and finding a way to get the first down. He could also be a safety valve in the passing game, which for a 2nd or 3rd string running back is just fine.

The Chiefs could go a couple different directions here and maybe a running back with a 6th round pick isn’t the best option, but  Jefferson would be one of the better running backs here. It is also a 6th round pick after all so you don’t have too much to lose. Jefferson had a nice career at Oregon State with over 3,000 yards from scrimmage and 29 TDs over three seasons at Oregon State. Jefferson isn’t the biggest at 5’10” and just over 200 lbs but then again if Clyde Edwards-Helaire were to go down you at least have someone who is able to replicate what he does. Again, it’s just another weapon for Patrick Mahomes and the offense.
