Round 4, pick 136, LB Dylan Moses

With their first pick in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, I have the K.C. Chiefs selecting linebacker Dylan Moses out of the University of Alabama. Moses could be an interesting pick here. He was projected as a first-round pick way earlier in the pre-draft process, but his stock seems to have fallen after a pedestrian 2020 season coming off of a knee injury the season prior.

However, I think if he’s available here, then the Chiefs should take a shot because his play speed is elite and he closes very well on his tackles. I believe he was playing timid in 2020 simply because he wanted to make it through without getting hurt again, which is understandable. In Moses’ career at Alabama he was able to rack up 104 solo tackles, 21.5 of them for a loss, 6 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 4 deflected passes and 2 interceptions.

Obviously, Moses was pretty productive and I do believe he can translate to the next level. His athleticism gives him potential in coverage and if he adds a little more bulk, he could become a very good run defender in the NFL. The Chiefs certainly have a need at linebacker with Damien Wilson going to the Jaguars in free agency and Moses could definitely have a chance to make an impact from day one.

Round 4, pick 144, EDGE Daelin Hayes

With their second 4th round pick in the 2021 Draft, I have the Chiefs selecting Notre Dame defensive end Daelin Hayes. Hayes is a good athlete with an NFL-ready body at 6’4″,  260 lbs., and he showed edge-setting ability at Notre Dame. Hayes projects as a rotational 4-3 lineman at the next level and that’s exactly what the Chiefs need.

Honestly, I typically have the Chiefs drafting a defensive end much earlier in mock drafts because I believe their need for one is urgent, but this free agency class still has a handful of names such as Aldon Smith, Olivier Vernon, Ryan Kerrigan, etc. and the Chiefs should capitalize on one of those names as a stop-gap player and then a mid-round draft pick like Daelin Hayes could complete the rotation and potentially develop into a nice player.

If everything goes right for Hayes, he could be an Alex Okafor type player in the NFL, which for a fourth round pick is not bad at all.
