The rumored formula for the National Football League had the Green Bay Packers as the likely opponent to be added to the slate for the K.C. Chiefs in 2021. On Tuesday, the league’s owners made it official by adopting the rule that adds a new regular season game to the current mix of 16 and announcing the layout of the new system.

The teams in each conference’s East and South divisions will face each other, but the AFC and NFC will swap opponents between the North and West divisions in order to find their 2021 opponents. For the AFC West teams, that means lining up with the NFC North division, and for the division-leading Chiefs, the Packers are up on the calendar.

It’s not yet know when the Chiefs and Packers will play, but what is clear is that Aaron Rodgers and company will visit Arrowhead at some point and when they do, it will be one of the single most anticipated games of the new season. The quarterback matchup alone is worth watching given the likelihood that both Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes are headed for the Pro Football Hall of Fame one day. However, both teams feature numerous other stars and successful organizations who will both have realistic dreams of a Super Bowl title.

The K.C. Chiefs will officially host the Packers in 2021.

As for the rest of the AFC West, they will face their counterparts based on last season’s standings from the NFC North as well. This means the Detroit Lions will visit the Denver Broncos, the Minnesota Vikings will visit the L.A. Chargers, and the Chicago Bears will be the visiting team against the Las Vegas Raiders.
