The K.C. Chiefs are reportedly re-signing wide receiver Tajae Sharpe after a short stint with the team’s practice squad last year, according to NFL reporter Mike Garafolo.

Sharpe played in only four games last year with the Minnesota Vikings and earned a mere three targets thrown his way. He also didn’t catch a single one. However, in years past with the Tennessee Titans, Sharpe was a bigger physical target (he stands 6’2, 194 lbs.) who averaged 31 catches for 389 yards and nearly 3 touchdowns per season from 2016-2019. He missed the entire 2017 season due to a foot injury.

Sharpe was the Titans fifth round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft out of UMass. He had 111 receptions and over 1,300 yards during his final season, the sort of productivity that earned the admiration of the Titans front office enough to make the pick.

Sharpe had a decent instant impact as a rookie, but ultimately that was a testament to the thin batch of pass catchers they had at that point versus the moment his rookie contract ran out. In 2019, Sharpe had been crowded out of the organization’s plans.

Tajae Sharpe will re-signed with the K.C. Chiefs.

Earlier this offseason, the Chiefs watched Sammy Watkins leave in order to sign with the Baltimore Ravens in free agency. They were also poised to potentially lose Demarcus Robinson as well, but they were able to bring him back on a one-year deal that keeps most of the offense from the last couple seasons intact.

In terms of competition, Sharpe will be able to likely compete for a special teams role and occasional targets near the bottom of the depth chart along with Byron Pringle, Marcus Kemp, Dalton Schoen, Chad Williams, Antonio Callaway, Maurice Ffrench, Gehrig Dieter, and Jody Fortson.

Next. The Chiefs can meet significant needs in the draft. dark
