The K.C. Chiefs already had one visit on the books early this coming week with word that defensive lineman Melvin Ingram will be at Arrowhead Stadium on Tuesday. It turns out he will be joined by another free agent in San Francisco 49ers cornerback K’Waun Williams.

NFL reporter Mike Kaye broke the news that Williams will be flying into K.C. on Monday for a free agent visit with the Chiefs as a potential addition to the team’s secondary.

Williams would instantly become the smallest cornerback on the Chiefs roster if he were to join the team, but he’s proven capable of playing inside successfully as a slot corner for years now, making such size concerns irrelevant. As a former undrafted free agent, Williams has carved out a very impressive career for himself over the last seven years in the NFL.

Williams first broke through with the Cleveland Browns and even started four games in his rookie campaign. He would start another six games for the Browns in 2015 before sitting out the ’16 campaign with an ankle injury that required surgery. The Browns waived him early that summer, and he would go on to miss the entire season. From there, the 49ers reached out and they’ve enjoyed his services ever since.

The K.C. Chiefs are bringing K’Waun Williams in for a free agent visit.

Last season, Williams played in only 8 games due to a knee injury for the Niners. In that span, he had 22 tackles, 4 deflected passes, 2 sacks, and 1 forced fumble. Williams has always profiled as a very physical tackler and the Niners took advantage of his ability to blitz on occasion. He’s also very strong against the run. If not for the injury concerns, and the fact that he turns 30 this summer, Williams was undoubtedly have more bidders for his services.

If the Chiefs were to sign Williams, he would push L’Jarius Sneed back outside to start on the boundary while the Chiefs figure out a competition between Deandre Baker and Charvarius Ward, if he returns as a restricted free agent, on the other side. Rashad Fenton and BoPete Keyes are also returning next season.

The Chiefs have also been linked to a reunion with Bashaud Breeland and Adoree’ Jackson in free agency in recent days.
