The K.C. Chiefs have made a couple roster moves to bolster depth at key offensive positions on Thursday with reports that the team had agreed to bring back tight end Blake Bell and running back Elijah McGuire on one-year deals.

Free agency just began this week for the 2021 NFL season and the Chiefs have been quite busy already, having brought in Joe Thuney as the big ticket item along with Kyle Long as further offensive line help. However they’ve also stayed very busy by re-signing several of their own players in an effort to largely keep a championship core together as much as possible.

Bell left the Chiefs last year at this time for a deal with the Dallas Cowboys to find a home behind Blake Jarwin, but the Chiefs clearly missed his blocking ability last year as a smart veteran backup for Travis Kelce. The team has also retained Nick Keizer, who was a restricted free agent, on the depth chart while allowing Deon Yelder to walk in free agency.

The K.C. Chiefs are bringing back a couple familiar faces on offense.

As for the running back position, the team released Damien Williams earlier this week in a surprise move that created a bit of cap space while ridding the team of a postseason hero. The Chiefs have Clyde Edwards-Helaire in a lead back role and re-signed Darrel Williams to a new deal to keep him as the clear No. 2 back. Elijah McGuire will compete with Darwin Thompson in training camp for the third running back role along with anyone else added this offseason.

Bell should be considered a solid bet to make the team as a known quantity re-signed after a year away. McGuire, while familiar to the team as well, is likely a flyer for an active roster spot given he hasn’t played an official NFL snap since the 2018 season.

Next. Chiefs should consider these FA pass rushers. dark
