Re-sign Austin Reiter

Austin Reiter has played nearly 2,000 snaps for the Chiefs the last two seasons and he’s played them rather well. He hasn’t been elite, mind you, but he’s been an effective if not above average player for the offense allowing only two sacks over that stretch. It definitely seems as though the front office appreciates Reiter’s production. Unheralded as one can get, once Reiter took over the center position, he hasn’t looked back and neither have the coaches.

The other factor here is cost. Reiter would likely be a cheap asset to bring back and is somebody you could count on for above average play at the position. A lot of what the Chiefs do in the next couple weeks will answer who they believe the weak link is on the offensive line. My guess is it’s not Reiter and the Chiefs will likely opt to bring him back and focus on their guard and tackle positions.

Retain Mitchell Schwartz

Mitchell Schwartz is the type of player who can play as long as he wants. Elite or near elite for most of his playing career, even his decline this past season saw him maintain above average play. If the surgery he had this offseason was completely successful, we may see him return to his elite level of yesteryear. Schwartz is one of the bigger wild cards this offseason, at least for the public. The Chiefs seem to be confident he will return but only time will tell. If they expend a decent amount of capital on a tackle, I think the writing is on the wall that Schwartz is being replaced this season or at least in the very near future.
