The Bargain Bin

Of course, not every free agent on this list will be a top-tier or even a second-tier free agent. The Chiefs will have to look at the bargain bin in order to find some production and cheap labor in order to address other positions on the team.

Chris Conley

If you were to make a list of Chiefs players that really deserved a ring but never got one, Chris Conley would be near the top. Well, there’s a chance the Chiefs could reunite with the player they drafted back in 2015. While Conley is nothing extraordinary, he’s a solid receiver who carved out a nice niche in Jacksonville and proved to be someone you can rely on at times. Add in the fact that Conley is already familiar with Kansas City’s offense and had a good relationship with Patrick Mahomes when he was here and Conley could make a lot of sense to bring back as an inexpensive option.

John Ross

The former first-round pick for the Cincinnati Bengals hasn’t exactly panned out to say the least. Everyone remembers John Ross because he broke the NFL Combine 40-yard dash record with a 4.22 40-time, and while his speed certainly fits a theme in Kansas City, he hasn’t been able to stay healthy at all. The former Washington Husky has only played more than 10 games once in 4 seasons and his career-best season was in 2019 where he had 506 yards and 3 TDs on 28 receptions in only 8 games. That lone 2019 season is really the only reason Ross is on the list at all. He showed flashes and averaged over 18 yards per reception and proved to be a vertical threat.

So, what’s the worst that can happen if the Chiefs just give John Ross a one-year deal and see what they can get? Besides, a change of scenery and a training staff as highly regarded as Kansas City’s may help Ross turn his career around.
