Zach Fulton

Zach Fulton is such a great story and one of the best examples of the keen eye for talent that John Dorsey brings to a a team.

Back in 2014, the Chiefs had two sixth round picks at No. 193 and No. 200 overall. Dorsey used both picks on offensive linemen: a known project out of McGill University in Montreal, Quebec named Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and an experienced SEC lineman out of Tennessee in Fulton. Together, they would become fixtures for years to come, beating the odds of being such a late-round choice.

Fulton began his career entrenched as the starting right guard for the Chiefs for the entire 2014 season, but he would slowly morph into a super sub role that would take advantage of his incredible versatility as the team dealt with multiple injuries. Over time, it wasn’t uncommon to see Fulton take starts at left guard, center, right guard in a single season as the team dealt with numerous injuries.

His hard work paid off when the Houston Texans came calling in free agency with a big-money deal worth $28 million over four seasons in 2018. Fulton has remained a starting right guard for the Texans ever since, making good on their investment three seasons ago. Last season, the Texans did rework Fulton’s deal to keep him on the roster and create a bit of cap space. It will be interesting to see if Fulton remains on the roster this season, however, as the team might need to release him to make further space in the coming year.
