6. Mahomes to Hill comes up empty

(5:22 – 1st) 3rd & 11 at TB 31

Facing a 3rd-and-long, Patrick Mahomes evades pressure and throws deep to the end zone for Tyreek Hill. The ball was on point, but Hill couldn’t come down with the deep strike.

Now, this play was hardly a gimme, and it’s hard to genuinely complain about Hill. Yet, this play was another example of a pressurized 3rd-and-long with a slim window for success. Again, I’m not sure if the final result changes if Hill comes down with the ball, but in a game where Tampa took away just about everything, the Chiefs needed to make these plays to have a chance.

The Chiefs needed to make every gimme, and a few difficult plays to challenge the Bucs, and that’s sadly not the result we saw. In the end, it’s yet another miscue in a game filled with them.
