The Kansas City Chiefs have released their latest injury report, one week before they suit up to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Super Bowl, and it’s clear the team is hoping that another seven days of rest will allow some important players to turn the corner. Several important players are listed as questionable, including wide receiver Sammy Watkins and cornerback L’Jarius Sneed.

The Chiefs also designated two players as out for Super Bowl LV on February 7, but those injuries were already made clear. For left tackle Eric Fisher, it’s almost surprising that the Chiefs haven’t placed him on injured reserve already to free up a roster space for their starting left tackle after losing him to an Achilles injury during their win over the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round. The other player already out is linebacker Willie Gay, Jr., who tore his meniscus in practice earlier this week.

As for the players who could potentially play, the Chiefs would be much stronger if they’re able to get guys like Watkins and Sneed back in the fold. Watkins played in only 10 games this season due to injuries, and the latest has taken him out since Week 16’s win over the Atlanta Falcons. Since then, a calf injury has kept him on the injury list and out of the postseason. Given the stout defense of the Buccaneers, Watkins’ presence would help balance the attention on Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce during the game.

As for Sneed, he’s just as important on the other side for the Chiefs secondary. Sneed has been a tremendous rookie performer this year and he’s blossomed in the postseason as a blitzing option for Steve Spagnuolo’s defense. His coverage skills and physical style is perfectly suited for the Chiefs defense, but unfortunately he’s in the league’s concussion protocol.

Those are not the only Chiefs who were listed as questionable. Second-year cornerback Rashad Fenton was limited in practice earlier this week with a XXXX injury, but he practiced in full on Friday, a positive sign for his availability next Sunday even though he’s listed as questionable. Unfortunately, running back Le’Veon Bell is trending in the opposite direction and sat out Friday’s practice after being limited for the previous two days.

The Chiefs and Bucs are set to kick off at 5:30 p.m. C.T. on Sunday, Feb. 7.
