Aaron Rodgers has passed Patrick Mahomes in our latest look at NFL MVP odds.

Andy Reid isn’t going to help Patrick Mahomes much at this point, and sportsbooks are banking on it. The latest NFL Most Valuable Player odds are out for the 2020 season after Week 16 played out and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is now the odds-on favorite to win the award over the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback.

Heading into Week 16, Mahomes would have likely been handed the award at season’s end, but a subpar performance—in fact, perhaps his worst overall performance to date in the league—followed by another stellar performance by Rodgers against the Tennessee Titans. According to sportsbooks, that was likely enough to put Rodgers over the top.

One thing that’s universally agreed upon is that MVP is a two-horse race at this stage, and whoever wins will be adding yet another MVP trophy to their mantle. Mahomes won the award for the first time back in 2018, his first full season as a starter. Meanwhile, it’s been six seasons since Rodgers won his last award in 2014. He also won his first MVP award in 2011.

The reason we mentioned Reid is because he’s already stated he’s leaning toward resting his players in Week 17. That means Mahomes is likely going to sit and watch Rodgers pad his stats against the Chicago Bears in primetime as the Packers hope to secure a top seed in the NFC. Given that Rodgers already has the NFL lead in touchdown passes, it make sense that oddsmakers would identify him as the favorite.

Aaron Rodgers key stats:

  • Completion rate: 70.3%
  • Touchdowns: 44
  • Interceptions: 5
  • QBR: 83.9
  • Yards: 4,059

Patrick Mahomes key stats:

  • Completion rate: 66.3%
  • Touchdowns: 38
  • Interceptions: 6
  • QBR: 82.7
  • Yards: 4,740

Right now, sportsbooks say that Rodgers is the favorite with a line of -250 compared to Mahomes who has a current line of +220.
