The Chiefs are favored by 3 points over the Chargers to begin Week 17.

Early in the betting world for Week 17 and one thing is clear: oddsmakers aren’t quite sure what to make of the game between the host Kansas City Chiefs and the visiting Los Angeles Chargers.

On the one hand, the game is a mismatch between one team that has locked up the first overall seed in the AFC and another likely readying itself for a head coaching search. On the other hand, Kansas City, at this point, has nothing official for which to play, which makes it hard to tell what the on-field product will actually resemble come Sunday.

In fact, at this point, oddsmakers, if there are odds available at the site at all, are calling this a toss-up. Some sites like Bovada aren’t even making the game available for sports bettors to wager upon. Others, like Action Network, have given the Chiefs a three-point advantage. Here, the Chiefs are the home team, which generally gives a team a 3-point advantage. Given that the Chiefs are then favored by three, it essentially means that oddsmakers would say it’s even on a neutral field.

Bettors might do well to remember that the Chargers have won 3 in a row and could ring up every single one of their AFC West rivals in the streak with a win on Sunday. For a team trying to gain confidence for the 2021 season, a four-game win streak to conclude the season could go a long way. At the same time, the Chiefs have plenty of talent and even if some starters are sitting, no one is going to want to lay an egg at season’s end.

Who will come out on top? It’s hard to say, but it’s clear the Chiefs will be resting at least some of their players. Just how many and how much that will affect the team’s final performance is up to the bettor to try to decipher.
