Here’s a look at some of the lessons we learned about the Chiefs from their win over the Dolphins.

With another Kansas City Chiefs win in the books, this time over the Miami Dolphins from Week 14, it’s a good time to step back and reflect on a few things that were revealed in this tough road win. Here’s a rundown of this week’s lessons learned about Chiefs, beginning with some insights into the league’s best player.

Mahomes can look mortal (for a bit)

With each passing week, Chiefs Kingdom is blessed with one jaw-dropping play after another from quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The same could be said of Week 14 against the Dolphins with a play that was the talking point of the first quarter as Mahomes took a sack for an astonishing 30 yards.

But that was only one piece of a miserable puzzle (or is it puzzling) for the Chiefs early as Mahomes just looked like Chiefs quarterbacks of old in the first quarter. There was the tipped interception to Byron Jones. There was the fumble that he recovered. There was the second interception to Eric Rowe. And there was that 30-yard sack.

If that sounds insane, it was. Chiefs fans have become accustomed to otherworldly play from Mahomes, to be sure, but in the opposite direction. Early in this game, we learned that Mahomes is still mortal, just like the rest of us, and it’s possible for even an MVP favorite to go through a frustrating stretch from time to time. In fact, he’ll even do so in spectacular fashion.

For the day, Mahomes threw three interceptions and was sacked 3 times. Of course, just to be clear, Mahomes also finished the game with 393 passing yards and more highlight-reel throws that put the game away fairly quickly in the second half. But we’d already learned those lessons a long time ago.
