Jay Glazer reported on Sunday that the Chiefs had several false positive COVID-19 tests.
The Kansas City Chiefs reportedly endured quite a scare less than 24 hours before their game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday Night Football. FOX Sports reporter Jay Glazer broke the news that the Chiefs organization spent the majority of their night dealing with multiple false positive COVID-19 tests as they tried to trace the results.
#Chiefs had a major scare when they got word at 3:30 am they had 7 positive COVID tests (including several coaches). For next 5 hours they had to do contact tracing, wake guys up to re-test and hours later found out they were ALL false positives. Crazy morning for them w a night

The Chiefs have been able to avoid the sort of team-wide COVID-19 breakouts that have occurred for other franchises like the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens. Just last week, the entire quarterback room of the Denver Broncos was quarantined and thus unable to play, which led to a practice squad wideout taking over quarterback duties against the New Orleans Saints.
The Chiefs have, however, dealt with at least a few random cases of COVID-19 despite their best efforts and intentions to stay safe and follow league-wide protocols. Jordan Ta’amu, a quarterback on the practice squad, tested positive for the coronavirus before the game against the New England Patriots in Week 4. Fullback Anthony Sherman and wideout Mecole Hardman were also lost to the COVID-19/reserve list earlier this year, while lineman Martinas Rankin was also placed on the same list recently.
Before the season began, the Chiefs were also one of the franchises most affected by players opting out due to the global pandemic. Offensive linemen Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and Lucas Niang as well as running back Damien Williams all decided to sit out this season in order to return in 2021 with the Chiefs after a delayed year off.
It will be interesting to hear more from Glazer or others as more details come forth about which players were involved and how chaotic things became. The Chiefs and Broncos kick off at 7:20 p.m. C.T.
