BoPete Keyes

Thakarius “BoPete” Keyes was the surprise selection of the 2020 NFL Draft for the Chiefs given that we all thought Veach was done with his selections after the fifth round was up and Michael Danna was the pick. Instead, the Chiefs saw an opportunity to grab Keyes, a promising corner from Tulane, in the seventh by giving up their 2021 sixth round choice to the Tennessee Titans.

Veach said after the selection that he believed Keyes would be gone before the Chiefs would have a chance to sign him as a rookie free agent so he made the move to secure him officially. From there, the Chiefs are hoping his length and raw skill set will carry him to greater contributions in Spags defense.  So far, he’s only played on special teams duty but the secondary has been fairly crowded thus far. Next year, he will have a much bigger chance to take on a role like Fenton has now.

Given that the Chiefs already have starting options outside for 2021 and 2022, Keyes’ ability to provide anything at all going forward would be a nice bonus for this young secondary.
