Andy’s Bag O’ Tricks

Just when you think you’ve seen it all from this Kansas City offense, the Chiefs still find ways to not only confuse the defense but make everyone else just shake their heads and laugh.

Andy Reid is already known as the most creative offensive genius in football, and his coaching tree speaks for itself with numerous successful disciples coaching throughout the NFL. But with Patrick Mahomes as his quarterback, Reid and the rest of his staff are having too much fun not to experiment at times.

As if the Super Bowl run wasn’t enough, this year alone, we’ve seen special touchdown plays for both Anthony Sherman and Eric Fisher. Last week against the New York Jets, the Chiefs called “Rolex” to great fanfare (and for Mahomes’ fifth TD of the day). This week, we saw a couple head-shaking plays in the team’s win over Carolina.

For the first Chiefs touchdown of the day, Patrick Mahomes goes in pre-snap motion and then rolls out in the opposite direction only to throw a laser toward the back of the end zone to find Demarcus Robinson for the score. The result was a lot of laughs and “can you believe this guy?” takes on Twitter.

Shortly after, Mahomes pulls out a couple fakes on an impressive red zone play that reaches Clyde Edwards-Helaire for the easy touchdown.

It wasn’t even an ideal day to spotlight the Chiefs ability to deceive their opponents, yet even here there are multiple plays that had us thrilled with how they went. Even after winning a championship and surprising opponents already this season, it just goes to show that Andy Reid always has something in his bag of tricks.
