Patrick Mahomes

While a number of Chiefs players have had a strong first half of the season, there is only one who will constantly be the talk of the league and mentioned in any MVP discussion: quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Despite a few relatively quiet games, Mahomes has still put up great first half numbers. Here is where his stat line currently stands.

  • 66.9% completions
  • 2,315 yards
  • 289.4 yards/game
  • 8.15 yards/attempt
  • 21 touchdowns
  • 1 interception

If you take the yards, touchdowns, and interceptions over eight games and look at what that puts him on pace for over 16 games it gives you.

  • 4,630 yards
  • 42 touchdowns
  • 2 interceptions

Basically, Mahomes is on pace to be somewhere in between his ridiculous MVP season and his season last year where he missed a few games with his knee injury. His completion percentage is right in line with where it has been the past two years. His yards/game and yards/attempt are closer to last season than his MVP year. His touchdowns are on pace to be much higher than last year but still short of the insane 50 he threw in 2018, and his interceptions are on pace for a career low.

All in all, I think we can agree that Mahomes is having another great season and belongs in the MVP discussion once more. While not every game will be as easy for him as this last Sunday against the Jets was, he will have a chance to put up some decent numbers against a few more struggling teams before the season is over.

So there you have it, Chiefs fans. That’s a quick look at where the Chiefs are at here at the halfway point of the season. What do you think? Do you agree that it looks like its the Steelers and Chiefs that will be battling for the number one seed? How do you feel about the offensive and defensive numbers right now compared to last season? I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments below.
