The Offense

At the halfway point of the season, the Chiefs are currently averaging 31.6 points per game and 418.9 yards per game. Those numbers are a slight improvement over last season. Here’s a breakdown of where the Chiefs are at now compared to what they averaged last season on offense.

2019: 28.2 points per game
2020: 31.6 points per game

2019: 391.2 yards per game, 6.4 yards per play
2020: 418.9 yards per game, 6.4 yards per play

2019: 47.6% 3rd down conversion rate
2020: 49.5% 3rd down conversion rate

2019: 281.1 passing yards per game, 8.1 yards per attempt, 30 touchdowns, 5 interceptions
2020: 286.4 passing yards per game, 7.9 yards per attempt, 42 touchdowns*, 2 interceptions*
*on pace for

2019: 98.1 rushing yards per game, 4.2 yards per carry, 16 rushing touchdowns
2020: 124.1 rushing yards per game, 4.5 yards per carry, 14 touchdowns*
*on pace for

As you can see, the Chiefs numbers are pretty much up across the board at the midway point of the season. The passing numbers are relatively similar with the exception of being on pace for 12 more touchdown passes this season. The run game is where the offense has seen the biggest improvement, averaging 26 more yards per game with a better yards/carry average as well.

With a favorable second half ahead of them, there is certainly reason to believe that the offense could end the season with better numbers than last year when they won the Super Bowl. Now let’s take a look at the defense.
