Let’s look at the top highlights from the Kansas City Chiefs dominant win over the New York Jets in Week 8.

There’s little doubt the Kansas City Chiefs thoroughly enjoyed themselves on Sunday afternoon while hosting the visiting New York Jets in Week 8. Patrick Mahomes threw an incredible five touchdown passes on the day, and the Chiefs defense completely stifled the Jets offense with a torrid second half that yielded just over 60 total yards of offense. The end result was a 35-9 victory that sent the Chiefs to 7-1 in the season’s first half.

Looking back at the game, there were highlights aplenty on both sides of the ball and even on special teams. In our efforts to count them down in a meaningful manner, we’ve got your top five highlights here:

1. Tyreek Needs a Ticket

At the end of the first quarter, Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill ran a beautiful deep route that fooled the Jets young secondary and caught a beautiful deep ball delivered by Mahomes. The result was his first of two touchdowns on the day, but it was his post-touchdown celebration that made it even sweeter.

2. Special-looking Teams

Dave Toub’s special teams units have taken their licks this season for good reason. The Chiefs have served up plenty of miscues in coverage units and the kicking game through the season’s first half with numerous penalties, missed extra points, mental mistakes and more. Fortunately things have been coming together over the last couple weeks and the team has put together some impact plays on special teams duty in Week 7 and Week 8.

On Sunday, the team not only successfully converted a fake punt on a pass from Tommy Townsend but they also watched backup safety Armani Watts come through in a big way to stop the Jets from scoring four consecutive field goals on four consecutive drives.

3. Dirty Dan Does It Again

Dirty Dan Sorensen has an incredible knack for coming up with the big play just when the team needs one. Sorensen came up huge in last season’s playoff run and again during the team’s first Super Bowl win in 50 seasons. In Week 8, Sorensen not only made several key tackles but he also forced a fumble that helped put the game completely out of reach for Adam Gase and the Jets.

4. Opening Drive Magic

Patrick Mahomes makes it all look so effortless at times, and the opening drive was one such series as he went 5-for-5 on passing attempts to open the game. The team moved the chains at will, targeting different receivers all the while, and Andy Reid‘s use of misdirection and the offense’s overwhelming speed allowed for a simple toss like this to go 30 yards. Mecole Hardman does the heavy lifting on this particular play.

5. Fifth Time’s The Charm

While there were several other key plays we could have highlighted here, it was the fifth touchdown from Mahomes on the day that deserves the fifth and final slot on our list of top highlights. That’s because Tyreek has Bless Austin beat deep down the left sideline and Mahomes rewards the excellent pocket provided. The result was a 41-yard touchdown on his final series of the day before hitting the bench. And of course we love the piggyback ride afterward.
