Tre’Davious White and Matt Milano

Coming into this season the Bills reputation was that of a team that was good defensively, but a little limited on offense. That’s been turned on its head so far this season. While their offense has taken a major step forward, their defense has taken an equally big step back. Through five games, they are giving up over 28 points per game and the only team they have held under 20 points so far this season is the struggling New York Jets.

Part of those struggles has been their defensive front not getting as much pressure on opposing quarterbacks (more on that in a moment) and part has been due to issues in coverage. Some of those coverage issues have been due to injuries and coming into the game tonight, Tre’Davious White and Matt Milano are both listed as questionable. Their status will have a massive effect on this game.

White is one of the NFL’s best young corners, and if he either can’t go or isn’t able to play at his regular level, it seems very unlikely that Buffalo is going to be able to keep Kansas City’s wideouts in check—even without Sammy Watkins. The Bills simply don’t have any other corners that can cover Tyreek Hill. So if White isn’t his usual self or can’t play at all, Hill should be able to go off in this one.

There is a very similar situation with linebacker Matt Milano as well. Milano is one of the NFL’s best coverage linebackers, and if he’s healthy, he will likely be a huge part of Buffalo’s plan to cover Travis Kelce. If Milano can’t play or is slowed by his injury, then the Bills are going to have a really hard time containing one of the best tight ends in all the NFL.

Next to the play of the starting quarterbacks, there might not be a bigger impact on the outcome on this game than the status of White and Milano. If they both play at a high level, it may allow the Bills to slow the Chiefs’ high powered offense and stay in this game. If those two players can’t go or are limited, then K.C.’s weapons in the passing game should be able to get open and create plays all night long. If that happens it will be hard for the Bills to keep pace.

Now let’s talk about a couple of key guys on the Chiefs line tonight.
