The Quarterbacks: Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen

I know this is an obvious one, that’s why I’m combining both quarterbacks into one entry here. While it may be obvious, I really do believe these two are the most important two players on the field tonight. If one has a great game and the other struggles, that’s the game. While Chiefs fans may be quick to write this head to head matchup off as a win for the Chiefs, the numbers this season aren’t so clear cut. Can you pick which stats belong to which quarterback?

  • 63.7% completions, 7.6 yards per attempt, 1,474 yards, 13 touchdowns, 1 interception, 2 rushing touchdowns
  • 69.3% completions, 8.4 yards per attempt, 1,589 yards, 14 touchdowns, 3 interceptions, 3 rushing touchdowns

The top line is Mahomes and the second line is Allen. While I certainly would bet on Mahomes every time if I had to pick one of these two quarterbacks, the idea that Mahomes could be just “okay” tonight and Allen could put up big numbers like Carr did last week is not impossible. Here’s to hoping that Mahomes comes out on a mission to make a statement like he did when he went head to head with last season’s MVP Lamar Jackson, because if he does, this game should go well for Kansas City.

Other writers or sites may try to sell you on the idea that the running backs, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Devin Singletary, are major players in this one. Obviously both teams will want to prevent the opposing back from running wild in this one, but ultimately they are simply guys that are there to compliment the quarterbacks who will be the actual key players in this game. In fact, I think you’ll find that the rest of the guys on this list are guys that have a direct impact on how the quarterbacks will perform.

Speaking of which, one of these quarterbacks has a new weapon that has made a huge difference.
