Younger Options

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the younger options that are also available to provide help and competition along the offensive line. The Chiefs have a few players who are intriguing for various reasons.

Nick Allegretti remains in house and on the active roster, so the team clearly likes what he adds on special teams and perhaps his potential. The former seventh round pick remains unproven for what he can offer as a potential pro starter, but he came to the Chiefs with plenty of starting experience in the Big Ten for Illinois.

Darryl Williams earned a nice bonus to sign with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Mississippi State. He’s a smart, versatile player with nearly 40 games of experience against the best college football had to offer, but his ceiling has been questioned at the pro level.

Yasir Durant turned heads at Missouri as a long-term starter at tackle whose size was expected to get him drafted in later rounds. Instead, the Chiefs were able to sign him and keep him local as a potential option to slide inside. Despite his undrafted status, Durant made the active roster, where he remains even after several weeks. It will be interesting to see if the Chiefs offer him a look during this year or whether they’re stashing him for a long-term play.
