Andy Reid cited as primary reason for Le’Veon Bell’s selection of Chiefs

Le’Veon Bell is apparently excited at the possibility of playing in Andy Reid’s offense with the Chiefs.

Le’Veon Bell reportedly whittled it down to a handful of teams, then three, and then two. When the dust settled and the final choice was finally made as to which team the free agent running back was going to select, the Kansas City Chiefs were the only franchise left standing.

NFL reporter Jim Trotter says he spoke to someone close to Bell and received a short, direct answer as to why the former New York Jets running back would sign with the Chiefs over others. “I reached out to someone in Lev’s camp and I asked that exact question. I got a response that was two words long: Andy Reid,” said Trotter

"“I was told that it was Andy’s offensive mind. It’s no secret coming out of New York, there’s been talk about friction between Lev Bell and Adam Gase in terms of how Le’Veon was used. With Andy Reid, one thing we know about him, he knows offense and he knows how to put his players in positions to succeed. He will do that with Lev.”"

Reid has been hailed as a creative genius for years and has an extensive body of work after decades as a head coach in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs. However, it’s only been in the last few years in Alex Smith’s final season and Patrick Mahomes’ first few years in the league that Reid has enjoyed more success—and a higher profile—than ever before. It’s a run capped by his first Super Bowl win and the chase for another in 2020.

Bell had myriad considerations in front of him after he was recently released by the Jets earlier this week. The other finalists for his services included the Miami Dolphins, which would have allowed him to play at home, and the Buffalo Bills, which would have likely earned him more snaps. Others teams reportedly in the running also included the Chicago Bears and New England Patriots.
