Raiders vs. Chiefs: Kansas City holds the edge in key matchups

Chiefs’ offensive line versus Maxx Crosby and the Raiders’ pass rush

After a breakout rookie season in 2019 which saw defensive end Maxx Crosby in the conversation for Defensive Rookie of the Year, it was clear heading into the season that the Raiders fourth round pick had a chance to be one of the game’s premier pass rushers.

Through four games in 2020, Crosby has not disappointed. With three sacks in four games, he is on pace for another double-digit sack season, which is incredibly rare for a pass rusher in their first two years in the league. The Raiders have also boosted their pass rush since the last time they faced the Chiefs by adding defensive end Carl Nassib. He hasn’t had the best start to the year, but he bolsters the rotation.

Speaking of which, Kansas City has an interior offensive line problem. They’ve had some flashes of strong games from free agent signings Mike Remmers and Kelechi Osemele, but the unit has looked ineffective and overpowered at times. Look for the Raiders to try to take advantage and force Mahomes to release early or otherwise be uncomfortable. If they’re successful, it could be a long day for the passing game.
