L’Jarius Sneed

Through two weeks in the season, L’Jarius Sneed was not only the NFL’s leader in interceptions (2), but was also the clear candidate for Kansas City’s defensive rookie of the year. That continued early in the Chiefs’ Week 3 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens. Sneed was shutting down whatever receiver the Ravens were throwing at him, and he ended up giving essentially nothing on the night.

Unfortunately, in diving for what would have been his third interception in as many weeks, Kansas City’s fourth round pick injured his collarbone and left the game for good prior to the end of the first half. Before his departure, Sneed looked like he was continuing to improve on his first two weeks in the league. As a fourth round pick, he’s been incredible for the Chiefs.

Reports on Wednesday morning are that he is likely to miss 4-8 weeks with a broken collarbone. That is a most unfortunate circumstance for Sneed and for the Chiefs. In Week 4, Kansas City will still be without 2019 starter Bashaud Breeland, and fellow starter Charvarius Ward will still be somewhat limited by his fractured hand, although he can still play.

When Sneed returns, he’s absolutely earned a chance to get back on the field quickly. For now, the team will aim to get by.
