Mike Danna

Perhaps the best rookie on the field for Kansas City on Monday night was fifth round pick Mike Danna. Danna played 43% of the team’s defensive snaps against the Ravens, and given the depth at the position coupled with the fact that he was a fifth round pick, makes this a huge development for the rookie.

In earning 24 plays against the number one rushing team in football, Danna demonstrated the ability to do something that perhaps no other defensive end on the roster has been able to do consistently besides Frank Clark. Danna effectively set the edge against the rushing game and forced much of it inside.

Danna obviously still has a long ways to go in his development. He’s still raw as a pass rusher and is still getting overpowered at the point of attack more often than we’d like. But the fact that he’s playing big snaps in big moments against a team as strong as Baltimore indicates that the coaching staff definitely has the confidence in him to give him an increased role moving forward.

Week 3 was a great week for the former Michigan Wolverine.
